Let your yard decide, not just the calendar
A robot mower does not need winter storage solely because October has arrived. A lawn still growing in a mild area needs a different schedule from a yard facing its first frosts. Ask whether mowing is still useful and possible within the conditions specified in the manual. If it is not, reduce or pause outings instead of carrying the summer schedule forward unchanged. October conditions vary greatly between regions.
Make a simple check before restarting
Walk around the starting area, narrow passages, edges and sections that have become difficult. Remove objects hiding boundaries or obstructing routes. A setup that worked in July may need different attention in autumn. This is a practical inspection routine, not an extra capability attributed to the mower.
Watch one outing after changing the schedule. Record hesitation, areas the mower no longer reaches and edges needing manual work. That list is more useful for improving your layout than a broad all-terrain marketing promise.

Prepare storage before dismantling the installation
Locate the manual, storage space and accessories requiring protection before the last outing. GARDENA recommends a dry, frost-free room for the mower before the first frost. Check the station and power supply as well: handling depends on the installed system.
Photograph connections for your own reference and record useful settings. Do not move a reference antenna without checking how that affects maps. Preparing gradually avoids an improvised intervention when cold weather arrives.

Compare an autumn purchase using the right criteria
If buying in October 2026, do not assume a seasonal discount. Check the price and exact variant with the retailer when purchasing. Measure lawn area, the hardest slope and narrow passages before opening the comparison tool. Include installation, storage and necessary accessories in your budget.

Before leaving, establish which actions are genuinely available remotely. Checking status, changing a schedule and freeing a physically blocked mower are different tasks. Arrange a local contact and make the manual, stop instructions and support details available. Use supported sharing features where offered rather than giving out your main password.
Plan whom to contact if mowing stops, which zones should remain paused and how the lawn will be handled if help is delayed. For a lengthy absence during cold weather, assess storage timing against local conditions and the manual. Remote monitoring does not replace seasonal preparation.
Buying in October: compare the full package
For two offers, record the exact model, pack, delivered price and services on the same date. Include required accessories, setup, instruction and any service charges. A cheaper unsupported offer may require more of your time; a higher price is useful only when its contents fit your needs.
A purely fictional example, unrelated to the illustrated Dreame’s price: €1,800 equipment plus €250 installation and €150 maintenance gives an initial €2,200 budget.
