Winter
Winter preparation covers several components. Identify their exact references before applying storage advice. The model manual takes priority; this overview shows the questions to check.
Treat the mower, station and antenna separately
Inventory the mower, station, power supply, guide wire or antenna before disconnecting anything. Find the storage instructions for each component. A wire-free mower may still use an outdoor reference station. Wire-free does not mean nothing needs preparing in the yard. Record the chosen procedure and its source section.
Is the storage space actually frost-free?
A garage or shed is not automatically frost-free. Check conditions and sufficient space for the prescribed storage position. GARDENA recommends a dry, frost-protected room. A mower shelter on the lawn is not a substitute for suitable winter storage indoors.
Prepare the battery without a universal rule
Check pre-storage charge, storage temperature and any maintenance charging separately. Husqvarna distinguishes some older models from those not needing charging during storage. Do not assume 50 percent charge, permanent charging or battery removal across all brands.
Account for connections and maps
Photograph connections for your own use and label cables before dismantling. GARDENA says boundary and guide wires can stay installed with protected ends. For external-reference systems, check how relocation affects maps; Husqvarna discusses this for EPOS. Keep each instruction attached to the relevant system.
Know when to seek assistance
Record stiff wheels, damaged contacts or broken parts before storage. Compare them with the maintenance the manufacturer allows owners to perform. Cleaning and complex repairs are not equivalent. An exact reference, purchase date, symptom description and focused photo help support provide a useful response.
Plan the first outing
In spring, check the installation and yard before restarting automatic outings. Edges or objects may have changed, or connections may have been reassembled incorrectly. Check zones and schedule, then supervise the first run. The October 2026 checklist on the Niva blog complements this evergreen reference.
