Pets
With dogs, cats or hedgehogs in the garden, start with mowing times and the exact model’s instructions. A camera or sensor does not establish that sharing the lawn is risk-free.
Separate garden use from mowing
Plan periods when pets and children are outside the mowing area. Check access points, gates and the routines of family members and anyone maintaining the garden. Everyone should know when the mower can start.
Do not let an animal chase the mower to test its response. If an animal enters unexpectedly, follow the manual’s stopping procedure before reorganising access. A virtual zone controls the mower’s movement; it does not contain a dog or cat.
Distinguish what each sensor does
Obstacle avoidance, contact detection, lift stopping and unauthorised-start protection have different purposes. A PIN does not detect animals, and a lift sensor does not establish that small obstacles will be avoided.
Husqvarna’s radar and ultrasonic guidance explicitly describes avoidance as not being a safety feature. Object size, position and grass height influence detection. Do not turn a sensor list into a protection guarantee. Read the limitations for the exact model in its manual.
Hedgehogs: inspect the lawn and avoid night operation
The British Hedgehog Preservation Society recommends inspecting areas before mowing and never scheduling robotic mowers at night. The absence of your own dog is not enough: wildlife may move through the garden while the household is quiet.
Check the area and its edges before starting. Keep wildlife refuges outside mowing areas using the appropriate installation arrangements. We do not rank mowers as guaranteed safe for hedgehogs. A sales demonstration or a few reviews cannot substitute for a documented evaluation.
Review saved schedules in October
An evening slot set during summer may fall after sunset in autumn. Check local daylight hours, zone schedules and automatic routines. Do not assume the app adjusts everything without configuration.
Husqvarna offers a routine for compatible Automower models that parks the mower between sunset and sunrise based on location. Its support page identifies supported devices. Check availability, activation and observed behaviour on your own model. This example does not mean every mower has the feature.
Questions to ask before choosing
Ask the seller for instructions concerning pets and children, the stopping procedure, detection limitations and scheduling options. Keep the manual reference and written answers rather than relying on a claim such as “pet friendly”.
If installation is delegated, ask for the schedule to be explained to the person using the garden. Recheck settings after changing a map or routine. Technical details in our comparator help with selection; they are not safety certification. This preparation complements the manufacturer’s operating instructions.

FAQ
Can a camera-equipped mower operate with my dog?
The camera alone does not authorise that situation. Follow the model’s instructions and schedule mowing without animals in the area.
Should I avoid mowing at night?
The British Hedgehog Preservation Society recommends not running robotic mowers at night and checking the area before use.
Does a PIN protect animals?
It controls access or starting depending on the model. It does not detect animals.
